Don't Track That Mud in the House

The finished product for Melody Lane (I hope).

Making mud pies. One needs hip boots to wade around in that stuff.

Will be glad to see the cement trucks and all the skip loaders and etc, gone.

Christmas is in the Air

People should be getting the Christmas spirit by now.
Lights are everywhere.
Can't imagine what Joseph and Mary had to go through
to find the place where Jesus could be born.

Now we celebrate many different
ways. Lights hanging from all kinds of immaginable places, wreaths handing on the doors, stars glistening and the wise men follow-ing the star.

The little red wagon loaded with pointsettias adds some
nostalgia to the season.

Will It Ever End?

Oh, to wake up at 7 AM to the sound of an enormous jackhammer
digging up the street in front of one's house.
Melody Lane, the street that goes by the front of my house,
has to be dug up, courtesy of the fire department, so the
fire engines can turn around. Four beautiful trees had to
be cut down.

Removing a tree stump is such a messy job and noisy, noisy, noisy and more noise.

Cover up, Its going to rain. And Thanksgiving
is only four days away.

Report From the Tree

Well I am still here in the middle of this courtyard buiding.
I don't look too bad considering I am surrounded by steel and
concrete.
This thing, I think it is called a crane, swings around over my
head dozens of times each day. I sure hope nothing is
dropped on me.
This may turn out to be a building after all.  The third story and that is high as it is
supposed to go. Too bad, only those living here will be able to see me.  I hope they
take good care of me.
I wonder whose home this will be?

Flowers that bloom in November----at Atherton

Many flowers bloom all year long at Atherton.
Here are some of them. This is a bed of salvia.
Some of the others are very beautiful. Here are birds
of paridise, lilies, Double Delight roses, and hibiscus.

It is wonderful to see these beautiful
things growing in the "fall and winter"
months.

Courtyard Progress Report by the Courtyard Oak Tree. 10-20-10

I am almost surrounded, but it looks as though I
might still have an outlet.  Don't think it will last long
.\
I wonder whose home this will be?  At least it looks
like it will have some walls and windows.
Sure hope it doesn't rain.

It is Fair Day

Of course when you come to a fair, you expect
to eat, eat, eat and buy, buy buy.  There are
plenty of places to do just that.

How about a pony ride or enjoy the petting zoo.

There are plenty of place to browse or buy---candy
cookies, clothing, and even furniture.

A great time was had by all.

Getting Ready—for the fair

Getting ready for one of the biggest days of the year
at Atherton's Country Fair. The two or three days
before require a lot of work for our maintenance and
grounds crew. Of course several people in the
background have been working for months.

These pictures show some of the
preparation—setting up canopies,
tables, chairs, serving tables and etc.
It is really a "fair" day.

Gardeners Par Excellence

Our head gardener here that keeps our grounds looking so
spic and span.

Two of our gardeners. In all
fairness I must explain, they
are only leaning on their tools
to pose for the picture. Other-
wise they are busy trimming
bushes and pulling weeds.
These guys look very tired. That's because it is the end
of their day. Looking forward to a hot shower, a good meal, and
an evening of rest.

They do their share in keeping Atherton looking
so beautiful.

The lamp

A couple months ago, I was just an ordinary lamppost lighting up the
night so no one would stumble and fall. And now look.
Someone came along and said "You need a fire hydrant
here." After digging up all the flowers and concrete, that
yellow thing was installed. To make sure we could see
it, the four yellow post were put up. Now I light up the
fire hydrant very well. Oh well -- go figure.

Paint the Town Red

These guys keep our vacancies painted but they work in many other places also. Pick you color--red
green, blue, white (their favorite), or any other color that can be mixed up. Notice how white they keep those clothes. Never spill a drop--and WOW what a nice vehicle to ride.

The "Tree"

Surprise!!! I'm still here. They are getting ready to pour concrete
for the ground floor. Looks like it will be a messy operation.

Yep, I was right. They are pouring that muddy stuff
and then smoothing it out. It will look nice when it
is all done. Those concrete guys do a great job.

Our CEO

It's about time to talk about the big man
on campus. He is not only big in stature,
he is the President and Chief Executive
Officer of Atherton Baptist Homes.
Besides the many, many other duties, a big
part of his time has been spent coordinating
the "Courtyard"--our new building. It is
difficult to believe the number of agencies
that require their approval for such a
project--the city, county, state, federal,
lawyers, finance institutions,contractors
and many more.
God was good to send such a dedicated man
for this endeavor. Thank you, Lord and thank
you, Mr. CEO.

Even From Texas

People come from all over to work at Atherton. This lady is Director
of Development for Atherton Baptist Homes. She lives in Texas
and comes to visit once a week, every month. Otherwise, she commutes
by computer. Technology today is amazing.
A lot ot things would not get done without a good secretary
and here is one of the best. Among the myriad of things
she does is the country fair. The Atherton Country Fair, in
October, would not happen without her excellent planning.

the Curtain Comes Down

The old man and old lady have been together for many years---and they look it--but all good things have to end.
At their last performance, they received the highest award possible---an Oscar. They will be missed.
